Atlas Summit 2014 -- In Atlas Shrugged John Galt is a mysterious presence that seems to be destroying the world. But, in fact, Galt is actually allowing the destroyers to destroy themselves.
Galt is transforming the world, making it safe for those who seek their own individual happiness and flourishing; who practice virtues such as rationality and productivity; and who act without pain or fear or guilt. Some individuals today are strong and independent enough to overcome their upbringing and culture in order to follow their own path to their inner Galt. But most people need the assistance of a culture that promotes and reinforces the fundamental values and spirit of a Galt if they are to promote and reinforce the underlying philosophy and resulting politics. It is thus useful for us to review today’s culture, to focus on how the culture both opens up and blocks the path to John Galt. Such a review also helps each of us ask, are we as individuals as Galt-like as we could be? This review also can shine a light on those in our world who exemplify the virtues of a Galt, inspiring us all. And this review can show us how such Galts today can transform the world.
